Support MSO

Make a gift that’s meaningful to you today! Now is the perfect time to give.

The Marquette Symphony Orchestra was greatly saddened by the passing of our wonderful harpist and pianist, Nancy Zimmerman. We have lost an outstanding musician and wonderful friend.

A week before our July concert, a large tumor was discovered and progressed very quickly.

I am not sure that there was ever a kinder, sweeter soul than Nancy. She was always in good spirits, no matter the situation. She is just a tremendous loss to this community.
— Betsy Grugin, Orchestra Manager

The Nancy A. Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship Fund

Your gifts will offer financial assistance for harp education and harpists with the MSO.

In honor of Nancy, a founding MSO member and positive inspiration to the Marquette and NMU community. Her piano and harp teaching and performances will be missed.

Expand and Encourage Charitable Giving.

Orchestras and other nonprofit arts organizations are part of the broader community of approximately 1.4 million nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, working alongside hospitals, educational institutions, food assistance programs, and the full array of charitable organizations.

Support from donors across the economic spectrum is essential to making this work possible, as orchestras respond to the needs of communities and form partnerships through education, artistic, economic development, and social service programs. When examining giving to orchestras by individual donors who are not trustees, there is evidence of a broad base of community support for the orchestras' work.

Ticket sales and admission fees alone do not come close to subsidizing the artistic presentations, educational offerings, and community-based programming of orchestras. On average, 40% of financial support for orchestras is derived from private contributions. Without this support, public access to high quality arts programming would be greatly diminished.
